Let me answer some of your questions:

Did Paul Watson really remove a reference to his $25000 offer after his headquarters in Friday Harbour hit the website seashepherd.blogspot.com?

Yes. On February 4th this was the page, note the offer simply says "document" a seal eating a cod - not "hollywood style movie":

On February 5th, after Sea Shepherd headquarters hits this blog the page was chopped:

Why? Paul Watson is a liar. If that comes as a shock to you I suggest you are on the wrong blog. Being a Newfoundlander Paul Watson is more famous to me than to most of my honourable readers. I can tell you that Watson has taken nearly thirty years to admit one simple fact.
Seals eat cod.

At a famous confrontation between the good captain and a Newfoundland premier Paul Watson's insistance that Seals do not eat cod brought forth the exclaimation "There are millions of seals out their in the sea and they have to be eating something - it's no good to tell me they are eating turnip".

Thirty years, and now Watson mmmmay if pressured admit that Seals eat 3% cod in their diet. Although this number floats from 2 to 3 percent depending on what Watson is selling at the time.
Why does it matter? Of course seals are entitled to eat cod. Can't blame them I like a bit of Fee and Chee myself. Have at 'ere I say. The saddest part of the whole story is that it takes 30 years for Watson to allow his sheep the belief that seals eat a few cod.

It goes to good science. It is good science that lets us make sound ecological management decisions. Paul hinders good science. Extremists like Paul do only one thing - They sell an idea, a fantasy, at a premium dollar. Facts are free.

When pinned to a corner a rat is inclined to bite, and this old sea rat is the worse. Paul will change the rules, bend the rules or totally shit himself - whatever it takes to do that dance that he does so well. It appears I've managed to trip him - and hopefully some of his minions will see the emperor has no clothes. See him for what he is, a dancing fool in a flurry of bullshit.

Be sure to check out the new offer:

(I will post a screen grab, as Paul tends to change things as it suits him best.) Note the new offer is now $50,000.

There is easily 50 Grand there for anyone living by the sea. I say "easily" because the only thing that kept Mr. Noble's photo from being worth 25 grand was a video function on his 300mm lens.

Happy filming and good science to you all.

Sea Shepherd

There's a Reason E-U Sounds Like Disgust

There is much talk about the European Economic Union banning seal products from Canada.

What can you say about that really? To be judged by Spain and Portugal the land of the bull fights. The unsanctioned fox hunts of the UK. What is it to be judged by Italy and Germany the homes of Mussolini and Hitler. The boar hunters of Germany. The Culls of Buzzards in Austria. The raping of the Grand Banks by Spain, Portugal and Estonia (recent NAFO reports they are, too this day, overfishing by 70%). The fashion houses of Italy and France that use fur of all types. France that has the blood of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians keeping the grass green over the fields of Beaumont Hamel...

What is it like having a ban on seal products from these countries? I would say it is a little like banning roses from being thrown into a pile of shit for fear they will smell.

Self Righteous Hypocrites. But hey - no one is talking about Bull Fights these days are they? If you walk into a room with your pants down how do you get people to look the other way? Apparently the EU have it figured out.

An End to the Hunt... because?!

Why end the seal hunt?

...Because no one should be allowed to club a little white baby seal!

Newfoundland and Labrador uses rifles not clubs or hakapiks, and the whitecoat pup is not killed and hasn't been for many years.

...But the hunt still kills baby seals less than three months old!

If this is the criteria for proposing an end to the hunt then there will follow a ban on a great number of globally consumed items including chicken, veal and lamb.

Lamb refers to young sheep aging from one week to about eight months. Hothouse lamb is one to two weeks old. Baby lamb is four to six weeks old. Regular lamb supermarket variety lamb which includes the oily and less palatable mutton is six weeks to one year in age.

Milk-fed veal comes from not yet weaned calves up to three months old. Formula-fed calves may be up to four months old. Bob veal comes from calves only one month old.

Chickens are reared until they reach about 12 weeks old. Conventional supermarket variety chickens are slaughtered at 6 weeks old.

...the hunt is inhumane!

The seal hunt has been proven to be a humane hunt in keeping with and in fact an improvement on slaughterhouse techniques. The seal hunt has also shown a willingness to grow and adapt to methods which ensure a more humane hunt. If inhumane killing is the reason to end the hunt then the industry would adapt to any recommendations made my veterinary groups as they have in the past.

...The hunt is not sustainable!

The herd has grown 300% in thirty years. Only a fraction of the animals are taken as they would in any inland wildlife hunt.

...It is the "Largest Slaughter of Marine Mammals in the World"!

Six Million seals in close proximity off Northern Newfoundland Eastern Labrador. "The Front" is a population of marine mammals which is unprecedented on the globe. The fact that such a large hunt that still sustains the numbers points to its enormous population size.

...Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are cruel barbarians!

What sensible human being can believe that the Newfoundlander or Labradorian is any less of a person than themselves! This is the most despicable argument perpetrated by hate mongers like capt. Paul. Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are some of the most kindhearted people in the world. People from all over visit and eventually stay here because they've found something unique in the world. The province hosted thousands of stranded passengers when planes were grounded on 9/11. An American gentleman rescued from a shipwreck when he was a youth credits Newfoundlanders and Labradorians as the first people that made him feel like he was an equal when the colour of his skin was not an issue with the locals who took him in and nursed him back to health. The poorest province has the highest in charity. The Newfoundland and Labrador character is one of the friendliest, most charitable, and compassionate people in the world. Ask someone who has been there. Other than Capt. Paul.

...Seals are only killed for fur, the meat is not eaten.

The seal can and should be utilized 100%. The coat makes a high quality fur, and leather. The thick fat reserves can be used for anything from a source of Omega-3 health supplement to oils and soaps to bio fuel. In fact the oils have been used traditionally in small stone lanterns for heat and light. The flippers and body are a local delicacy and enjoyed by a great number of people. The remainer can be used as feed and pet food at the very low end of possible use. Currently the protest groups themselves have hampered any efforts to make effective use of the protein biomass. The protest groups create a self-fulfilling prophesy which benefits only their own bottom line.

...The seal hunt is not the primary income of the fisherman and it not necessary to their living!

Fisherman are seasonal workers and have been for generations. Typically income from the seal hunt is an important part of an annual salary which may include other sources of income in other seasons, cod, crab, capelin, plant work, farming- the list of a fisherman's yearly duties is long. Each one essential to his/her total income for the year.

...If all of this is true why then is the anti-sealing movement so strong?

The seal protest movement is enormously well funded. There is multitudes more money made from donations to seal hunt protest groups than is ever made on the seal hunt itself. The reason people donate is simple, a photo of a whitecoat elicits an emotional response. IFAW, Seashepherd, HSUS all prominently use the image of a seal in their logos, marketing campaigns and appeals for money. In the end a simple photo of a cute whitecoat seal can not be rivaled by any photo of a fishermen's family. No other meat or fur production on the whole globe is as publicly displayed as the seal hunt off Newfoundland and Labrador.

The seal hunt movement focuses on Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. It does not make any attempts to isolate any native groups in any way, in fact the EU ban has exemptions for native hunts. It also rarely mentions other hunts including in the US. Few realize that seals are hunted in America. Why is this so? The Newfoundland and Labrador people are an easy target, only a half-million people in total on the island and in Labrador. The province itself is the poorest in Canada and weakly supported by the federal government because it has only 7 seats of 308 in parliament, the seal hunt being federal jurisdiction means that support must come federally to be effective.

Largely unopposed the machine of influence that is the marketing campaigns of the IFAW, Sea Shepherd, HSUS etc. run amok.

Sea Shepherd Blog Lays Claim for $25000 Reward

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ToQsHRonmjA/SfIsscUXbKI/AAAAAAAAACM/iRvfePn-aSY/s400/seal_codbelly.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5328370451160198306" />
Seals eat the soft bellies of cod fish. This is a fact that
Newfoundlanders and Labradorian fishermen have made claim to for a long time.
For years fishermen have witnessed seals eating the bellies of codfish and have shown the remains of carcasses of codfish with bellies removed. We have seen seals swarming schools of codfish, we have seen codfish torn apart by seals, their bellies removed.

The proof of this has been elusive though. Showing seals among codfish does not proof they rip their bellies open. Showing the resulting codfish with the bellies chewed free does not proof that the seals in fact did the deed. In addition the contents of a seals stomach cannot be easily investigated to proof the point since the soft bellies and liver of the codfish are so quickly broken down by the seals digestive system. In fact the only real evidence that any marine organism is eating a codfish would be the presence of the otiliths, small dense bonelike formations in the cod's skull that persist for a time in the stomach of its predator. In fact craftspeople make earrings out of these otiliths, like tiny jewels. If the seals don't eat the heads - no otiliths. So there's the catch to anyone making a claim that seals destroy cod by eating there soft underbelly. So confident is Paul Watson in the difficulty to pose any reliable proof that seals are a destructive factor in cod populations that he has made a long standing offer of reward of $25000 for proof.

Today Seashepherd blog is making claim for the $25000 and offering proof for the public to witness in the photo above.

Seashepherd blog upon receive of the reward money will not accept any financial benefit for our own part in submitting this proof. Instead we will donate half the reward for the photographer and the families of sealers who have had a poor year on the hunt, to be offered to the sealers association for distribution of the funds and the remaining $12500 SeaShepherd blog will donate to the SPCA charities across Newfoundland and Labrador for their valuable and underfunded efforts in their work.

I have e-mailed the Good Capt. with instructions and an address to send the cheque to.

Close attention to the photo will show what fishermen have been saying for years. Notice how the seal is tearing the soft white flesh of the cod's belly, pulling it apart in his teeth. Notice how the cod fish has already been stripped up the the head, the seal in effect trimming the cod's belly away like you would eat an ear of corn. Undeniable even for the most stubborn skeptic. The article described exactly as Newfoundland and Labrador fishermen have been observing for decades, that the smaller fish are eaten whole, and the larger fish picked clean. "They eat all the parts that we wouldn't" leaving the meat of the fish.

The dining habits of the seal on cod fish is important to the ecology of the cod because there has been a substantial decrease in the numbers of larger cod. Eating only the bellies means that larger cod that would have larger amounts of spawn in addition to being a genetically larger and stronger breed are destroyed instead.

I have e-mailed Paul with an instructions and address where the $25000
can be sent.

Paul repeats his offer here:

http://www.seashepherd.org/seals/seals-faq.html
Captain Watson: No, you saw a news report that said that and you did not
see any seals that were engaged in ripping the stomachs out of cod and
leaving the gutted bodies behind. You did not see it because there has
never been any film of it. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has had
a standing offer to pay $25,000 to any person who can document a harp
seal ripping the stomach out of a cod and leaving the body behind.

http://www.thetelegram.com/index.cfm?sid=244817&sc=79

Farley Bails

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ToQsHRonmjA/SAYZA8ZM5eI/AAAAAAAAABU/XwYCv8F6zcw/s400/blackjoke.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189863124593599970" />
Farley bails the SS from the slammer. These proud and independent people will not give home to the cowardice of Paul and the SS.

Vive le Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon! Newfoundland and Labrador, and indeed Canada can take example from your spirit.

Tuck your tail and run Paul.

Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon is a beautiful and wonderfully unique tourist destination in North America. A little piece of true French culture just off the south coast of the island of Newfoundland.

http://www.st-pierre-et-miquelon.com/

Update: Paul was not on the Farley Mowat, he was hauling his arse on a plane. Interviewed at the airport he suggested that France was not to blame for the trouble in St. Pierre, he instead implied that Newfoundlanders were the root cause. Take heed Paul here's a little piece of important information: The people of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon are not puppets of France. The people in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon are not influenced by Newfoundland and Labrador. Unlike the sheep that blindly follow the deceit and hypocrisy of the SS Society the people of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon are independent thinkers. They know what it is to be mariners. They know what it is to battle the sea, and they know the heartache of loss. When Paul can so callously speak of the death of their fellow sailors it shows his true colours. He is a man inspired by hate.

Once again I applaud the men and women of the islands of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/newfoundland-labrador/story/2008/04/04/stpierre-watson.html

Mowat - Still Crying Wolf

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ToQsHRonmjA/R_EfP4a5fXI/AAAAAAAAAA0/rEWra0YFaTI/s320/amory.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5183959003783855474" />
Farley Mowat is the Canadian author who was publicly embarrassed in 1996 by Saturday Night Magazine who outed him in being one of Canadian greatest liars. Among his claims being that he was responsible for the great scientific discovery that a wolf's diet in Winter is supplemented greatly by small rodents. In fact the knowledge of the dietary staple of Wolves was long known before the great Farley Mowat spent his working vacation in the North and wrote "Never Cry Wolf".

It is entirely fitting that Canada's second greatest deceiver Capt. Paul should adopt the name of Farley Mowat to be the flagship of his deception campaign.

Question is What will happen to Paul for his love-rub with the Canadian Coast Guard ship? What should happen? Where would the Farley Mowat be right now if Paul attempted something like that with an American Vessel in the other Gulf. I suggest Paul would be more intimately acquainted with the sea than he ever cared to be. Paul's next tug should be named more directly "The SS Lying Bastard".

Paul has an awful lot of people supposedly ramming his vessel doesn't he? Either he has the Captain of the Exxon Valdez at the Helm or he is deliberately charging vessels in an attempt at Environmental Terrorism. That couldn't be could it? Is terrorism acceptable in the polite British Colony of Canada? Time to send this nuisance to Guantánamo.

Fatbacks Back

Guess who's coming back!
One Newfoundlander
Newfoundlander invites Sir Paul McCartney to gain truth of seal hunt

St. John ’s March 2nd, 2008 - Samantha Gerbeau of Newfoundland and Labrador , Canada , is inviting Sir Paul McCartney to learn the truth about the North Atlantic Seal Hunt.

Ms. Gerbeau is extending the offer to Sir Paul McCartney to draw his lordships’ attention to the numerous misrepresentations and disingenuous practices of groups alleging to support the rights of animals.

“Hopefully his lordship will be able to observe for himself that he and many other celebrities have been duped into accepting as truths the outright lies about the seal hunt and its benefits beyond the acquisition of seal pelts to humanity,” said Samantha.

A HIGHLY EXPENSIVE campaign to influence the new European parliament to ban the importation of seal products has begun. “It is no secret the anti-hunt lobbyists selectively target those European parliamentarians whose countries have the fewest resources to counter the effects of their lobbying,” said Gerbeau.

By inviting Sir Paul to the front Ms. Gerbeau hopes those anti-seal hunt protestors will not succeed in furthering their ludicrous allegations unto parliamentarians or other celebrities, like arranging televised interviews with them as was done in 2006 to Sir Paul McCartney in the Larry King Live television interview.

These groups regularly use media that can be attracted to their sideshows to support their causes. Those media events – sometimes staged, have been effective events as admitted by various anti-seal hunt groups.

“The numerous government releases and statements to leaders and members of HSUS, the IFWA and the WWF and other groups opposed to the seal hunt are being ignored. Statements of the seal population explosion which has been steadily occurring (not just on the coast of Newfoundland or near the state of Maine ), are ignored and the serious threats to global warming and health of the environment shows how little interest our planet is to these groups. Equally mystifying is the position presented in these statements that the hunt supports inhumane killing of baby seals. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

As one reads the media reports, or observes staged video footage of alleged seal hunts, it becomes readily apparent these hunt protestors are stating they are more competent to determine that methods used to dispatch MATURE seals are inhumane than are members of the IVWG or Independent Veterinarians Working Group whom by law must supervise the harvests and have stated to the European Food and Safety Association that in fact the Atlantic Canadian Seal Hunt is very well managed and humane.

-30-

Contact:

Samantha Gerbeau
To view Sam's blog go to www.newfoundcare.blogspot.com support the spring harvest!
Founder of Newfoundcare and Author of The ABC's of The Real Treat!
Past President of Memorial Toastmasters
INCO Innovation Center Room 2014
709-740-2532
www.newfoundcare.ca

Samantha Gerbeau helps heal the ills of humanity. As a researcher, crisis communications planner, she is actively involved in sustaining a natural food supply her home and original fishing station of Europe, Newfoundland and Labrador.
She spent her formative years attending a British private school in Barbados, W.I. after her father’s death. She regarded the experience as an insightful look into the cultural differences and similarities of what it means to live on an island that mainly relies on fish for its livelihood. The warm climate and abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables were not enough to keep Samantha away from her home, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Samantha is a fighter for humanity and seeks solutions for social responsibility. Her foresight comes from recognizing how the outworn industrialized ways of the world need reform for our present earth conditions. In 2004, she wrote a children's book called, The ABC's of the Real Treat! and published it herself in 2007 with the help of the Sisters of Mercy and Presentation of Newfoundland and Labrador. Samantha feels that no one should have to pay for education or essential knowledge, especially children. She believed that by giving the book as a gift to 15,000 children in Newfoundland and Labrador, she was helping to inform others that 'the real treat is to eat good food'. With an ever-increasing rate of obesity and type-two diabetes, that exists in Newfoundland and Labrador, she seen the need to create more awareness of eating well for the environment and give kids real knowledge of what gives them good energy. Now, she provides in-class picnics that show and tell children all about the natural world around them. She tells them the best ways to find natural energy and how moods are affected by what we eat. Goldberg said that "from where he comes from" in the South, dogfighting isn't that unusual.

"It's like cockfighting in Puerto Rico," she said. "There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country."

Co-host Joy Behar looked horrified at Goldberg.

"How about dog torture and dog murdering?" Behar asked.

For many people, dogs are sport, Goldberg replied, and it appeared it took awhile for Vick to realize that he was up against serious charges.

...but a hunt that is commercially viable, scrutinized and shown to be humane, of a healthy species and population, that has great potential for use of fat, oil, fur, meat - is condemned in the US. Not only condemned but true to the ideals of upper-middle class Americians their view is forcefully imposed on other countries.

There is no torture in the seal hunt, there is no gaming or recreation. Seal hunters are not multi-millionaires, not famous athletes nor movie stars.

Who in the US is prepared to stand and state the fact that the Atlantic Canadian Seal hunt is a justified, humane and sustainable harvest? We've been over this ground before, Smith, so give it a rest. The likes of Paul Watson doesn't bear thinking about anymore, let alone get upset about.

(Captain Paul Watson: They have been saying this for thee decades yet they still keep whining and writing about me. And I don’t think there is any doubt that I upset them. Like Ed here. He seems a trifle upset. But Ed is a little smarter than your average seal killing Newfoundlander. He actually recognizes that we are making progress in our efforts to abolish sealing.)

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: The Watson Crew has been saying this for three decades – yet as you can see they still keep whining and writing about us. I don’t think there is any doubt that we upset him. Like Paul here. He seems a trifle upset. Too bad Paul is not a little smarter than your average Newfoundlander. He refuses to see that he is a complete and utter failure at everything he has ever tried to accomplish.

Columnist Ed Smith: ... people like Paul Watson make a career and a fortune on other peoples' backs, whatever the cost to them.

(Captain Paul Watson: Great endorsement Ed. I love that. Thank-you. Ed is admitting that the economic pressure is having an impact. Now I really wish the 2nd part was true. So far I’ve not seen much sign of the fortune that I have supposedly been making. The myth in Newfoundland is that anyone who opposes killing seals is reaping in tons of money from the campaign to oppose sealing. I wish. We could use more money to operate our vessels to protect fish, seals, seabirds, turtles and whales.

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: May a humbly suggest to the reader that in fact Paul’s finances are available for all to see. An article for your consideration is here. http://www.canadafreepress.com/2005/higgins100705.htm

Paul continued... But my suggestion to the sealers is that if there is so much money being made from saving seals and so little being made from killing them, would it not be wiser to switch jobs and to start saving seals rather than to kill them. Go where ye think the money is b’yes and stop wasting your time on a lowlife, low-paying, low self esteem, barbaric and ignorant life style.)

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: This is what Paul likes to do when logic and fact fail him. Like the highschool bully he throws insults and attempts to mock the dialect. Ask yourself kind reader – at what point in your life did you move beyond this silly playground-style display? Quite some years ago I would guess. In Newfoundland we call this style of character a cracky-dog. A small dog with a yappy irritating bark – but nothing in the way of teeth.

Columnist Ed Smith: Mr. Watson seems to get a kick out of distress, other people's distress, that is. We've all seen examples aplenty of that. Where there isn't enough distress for his liking, he'll make heroic efforts to cause more.

Paully Watson: Ed I do indeed get a kick out of seeing seal killers in distress. I take great pleasure and joy in seeing them trapped in the ice and unable to reach their innocent victims. Yes I do, I most surely do. I would rather get my kicks watching sealers sitting idle on the ice than to watch them kicking seals in the head and skinning them alive and before you go on about how humane the bloody hunt is, stow it, because I’ve seen it, for thirty years I’ve seen the grossest and most despicable cruelty imaginable out there on those hellish ice floes. I have zero sympathy for the sealers and total sympathy for their victims.

Columnist Ed Smith: Lots of distressing things happening in this terrible old world. Apart from the unspeakable tragedy at Virginia Tech last week, men, women and children, civilians and soldiers are being slaughtered and raped wholesale in almost every part of this world. Lots of places for Brother Watson to find injustice and barbarism in man's inhumanity to man.

Paully Watson: Translation is that I have no right to oppose cruelty and slaughter to seals because some wacko shoots some students in Virginia. Let me see, I’ve taken aid supplies on my ships to Africa and to South America which is probably more than Ed Smith has done to aid humans in need.

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: Truthfully Paul has done next to nothing to aid human’s. He likes to speak about the same things over and over. He has done just enough in a variety of activist roles to place him in that time and place. He will tell you he is a founder of Greenpeace, a veteran of Wounded Knee, and now an aid worker in Africa and South America. Do some research – all of the people who have been involved and are the true champions of these causes have completely disassociated themselves from this dismal failure of an activist Paul Watson.

Paully again: Whatever you do in this world, some moronic critic will ask you why you’re not doing something else. Ed, you have a job and that is to write silly editorials for relatively minor publications.

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: ...and apparently Paul’s lot in life is to write silly commentary for even less significant publications. Paul has become an armchair activist. Does the Farley Mowat even have her hull dampened this year?

Columnist Ed Smith: The great Stephen Lewis finds it in the AIDS epidemic in Africa , as do so many others. We have a good friend who probably weighs 90 pounds on a wet day who by herself is operating a Christian mission school in Haiti where her life is threatened almost daily.

Watson: All power to Stephen Lewis and his efforts to fight AIDS in Africa or to people helping people around the world. But why is that the reason for me or anyone else to tolerate cruelty and slaughter to innocent creatures to provide a vain luxury product for insensitive hominid slobs. Ed, perhaps man’s inhumanity to man might begin with a firm foundation of kindness by eliminating man’s inhumanity to animals.

Canadian soldiers find injustice and suffering in Afghanistan halfway around the world, and are fighting and dying for the rights of people there. It's when I think of people like the two soldiers being buried last week, and our friend Karen, that even the thought of people like Paul Watson turns my stomach.

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: This illustrates the fundamental difference between Paul and Newfoundland and Labradorians. A Newfoundland and Labradorian’s interest turns first to compassion. We recognize man’s inhumanity to man and we fight against it. We recognize that it is hate that is the ruination of this world. Hate of the style of Paul Watson has to fellow humans. Hate that you can read in his words whenever he references a Newfoundland and Labradorian. Newfoundland and Labradorians have throughout history saved so many souls in trouble. Aid relief to third world countries, fish to the prairies during times of recession and drought, our hospitality to the stranded passengers on 9/11, we are the highest per capita contributors to charity. By comparison Paul enjoys the human misery of seeing stranded boats, and when a man’s livlihood is destroyed. Indeed in this very commentary he quotes “I rooted for the storm in the movie “A Perfect Storm”.
Does anyone think this man truly has the faculty of his senses?

World's fattest Vegan: Canadian soldiers have no business in Afghanistan where they are occupiers fighting and dying for the oil companies and opium growers. I would rather fight to protect the rights of seals and whales than the “rights” of petro-corporations. Believe the lie about fighting for human rights in Afghanistan if you wish Ed, but why are these soldiers not fighting for human rights in Darfur , Zimbabwe , China , or a hundred other places more deserving of attention than Afghanistan ? Human rights! Rights for the humans if the price is right more like it.

Columnist Ed Smith: Watson isn't fighting for the rights of the people in Afghanistan , or the poor and ignorant in Haiti , or the AIDS-orphaned children in Africa . These are distresses he chooses to ignore. Watson is fighting Newfoundlanders and Labradorians and their right to hunt the seal in the spring as our forefathers have done for five centuries.

Captain Paul Watson: Well Ed ignores the fact that I did bring aid supplies to Africa and to South America and I did human rights work in Cambodia in the past. But I am from the Maritimes and I find it shameful that my people are engaged in wholesale cruelty and slaughter not to mention devastating over-fishing and environmental destruction. I have an obligation to address these issues in my own country and region. No Ed, I’m not fighting for the rights of people in Afghanistan . Other people are, or at least pretending to be. I’m fighting for the survival of aquatic species and I’m fighting for the rights of these species to be allowed to live harmoniously on this planet without some deranged ape sticking a harpoon in their back or bashing in their newborn brains.

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: Physician heal thyself. Why do you feel the fight in Afghanistan is less than worthy of attention while you yourself chooses to first and foremost “fight” for the harp seal. A species that is not in any danger of population decline and is in fact thriving. If you see that the soldiers in Afghanistan can better be used in Darfur, Zimbabwe or China – why then do you choose a healthy population of marine mammals as your poster child we there are so many species in DIRE need of help. Is is possible that the motivation of money and hatred of Newfoundland and Labradorians supercedes your animal rights activism?
A fishing vessel, the means of livelihood to several people, burns to the water and Watson, on the assumption that someone may have set fire to the boat, gleefully calls that someone a hero. Could anyone with any sense of justice and fair play characterize an arsonist as a hero who would destroy the means by which several families made a living?

Columnist Ed Smith: No, but Paul Watson could.

Wa's his name: What you see as a means of livelihood, I see as an implement of marine destruction Ed. I rejoice with every fishing boat, whaler or sealing boat sunk and lost. I rooted for the storm in the movie The Perfect Storm.

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: You thought I was joking about The Perfect Storm quote didn’t you.

Columnist Ed Smith: So now we have upwards of a hundred vessels and 500 people at the mercy of the pack ice. Hopefully they'll be free by the time you read this but the damage will have been done by then. Could any person, realizing the courage of these hunters who know what they're up against the moment they leave harbour, see them as anything but totally heroic figures?

No, but Paul Watson can.

Captain Paul Watson: Isn’t it wonderful Ed. It made my day, my week, my month. Especially seeing them pathetically begging for smokes to feed their addiction. Loved it Ed, loved every minute of it. Heroic figures! Give me a break. They are dirty baby seal bashing thugs. To call a seal killer a hero is to cast a stench over the name and to sully it with associations that are so sinisterly vile that it is sickening to even contemplate. Heroes, hardly Ed, only in the most warped of minds can such barbarous sadistic creeps like these sealers be considered heroes.
Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: Keep in mind he rooted for the Storm!!

Columnist Ed Smith: I once shook Paul Watson's hand. I did it not knowing what he stood for and having no idea of what he would achieve at the expense of my brothers and sisters who hunt the seal. Now every night I feel like washing those hands in Gillette's lye. I'm paralyzed, remember. Wouldn't feel a thing.

Captain Paul Watson: I don’t recall shaking Ed’s hand. I was never running for office in Newfoundland . I’ve always opposed the seal hunt so if he met me in Newfoundland it had to be my capacity as someone who opposed the slaughter.

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: Come now Paul – let’s tell your sheep the truth. You have been in Newfoundland and Labrador for far more reasons than “running for office”. There was a time you understood the pride that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have and you were a wanna-be Newfoundlander. Your ship parked on the South Side. You did the campus and speakers circuit. You did you bids for funding for various hair-brained schemes. You were unemployed and desolate with the boot-prints of Greenpeace still marking your backside. How quickly we forget.

Paul: The last line in the above paragraph makes little sense Ed. What are you saying? I am flattered that you think of me every night and that I am the reason you keep up with your personal hygiene.

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: Let me help you out Paul. Mr. Smith is saying he would rather strip the prints from his palms with Lye than shake your hand again. You wish death and destruction on our people and spew hatred. The great enigma that defines your life is that you can claim to run a group based on compassion while being without compassion yourself.

St. Paul the benevolent: What this means is that we the Shepherds are protecting the Lamb of God and you are on the side of the demons turning the peaceful, pristine white paradise of the ice nurseries into a blood drenched, screaming hell where the unimaginable cruelties inflicted on the ice against innocent creatures bellows to the entire world just how barbaric and evil mankind can be.

You side with the demons who torture and kill and I side with beauty and innocence.
I’m on the side of the angels Ed and you, well you’ve cast your lot with the lowlifes and the thugs and the cruel imps of Satan.

Your choice but you know I sleep very well at night with the choice I’ve made.

Sea Shepherd Editor’s Notes: Now apparently Paul is devinely inspired in his quest. Was he so in tune with God when he said of a lady in the US who dared to post a DFO link about sealing: "you are a very heartless and insensitve person, but then again you're a ridiculous Jesus freak so it makes sense."

(And then his usual list of self-proclaimed questionable accomplishments. What a marvelous fellow this Watson man is.)

Captain Paul Watson
Founder and President chief cook and bottle washer of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (1977-
Co-Founder, but kicked out of- The Greenpeace Foundation (1972)
Co-Founder, got the boots bigtime - Greenpeace International (1979)
Director of the Sierra Club USA – kindly asked to leave (2003-2006)
Director - The Farley Mowat Prostitute
Director - www.harpseals.org
Cure for Cancer 1989
Invented Silly-String
Boy Scout Junior Achiever 1976
Got an “A” in Math once, Grade 4
seashepherd.blogspot.com
Tel: 360-370-5650
Friday Harbor , Washington

Paul's World - A Scary Look at an Irrational Human Mind

A Scary Look into the Mind of Paul Watson:

Watson calls for a population drop to less than 1 billion.

So look around your house, are their six people in there? Five of Watson's posse has to die so that Watson may live. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Need a reminder?

“We need vast areas of the planet where humans do not live at all and where other species are free to evolve without human interference.”

It's called ecological reserves - Paul has the cash to support this what reserves has he created that he doesn't also use for his own purposes?

“We need to radically and intelligently reduce human populations to fewer than one billion.”

So has Paul chosen his sacrificial five yet?!

Sea transportation should be by sail. The big clippers were the finest ships ever built and sufficient to our needs. Air transportation should be by solar powered blimps when air transportation is necessary.”

... but there are no sails on the Farley Mowat?! Is Paul a hypocrite?! Can it be?!

The Watson rant kept on going calling for everything from cutting down on the population of domesticated dogs and cats to cutting down on everything else in what he called “simplify, simplify, simplify.”

Paul wants to kill your puppy dog!

Watson essentially called for humans to return to primitive lifestyles. “We need to stop flying, stop driving cars, and jetting around on marine recreational vehicles. The Mennonites survive without cars and so can the rest of us.”

When we see the Farley Mowat fitted with sails - then we can talk. In the meantime I fully support Paul in becoming a mennonite. I'll even chip in for the horse.

http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2007/20070506180903.aspx

http://seashepherd.blogspot.com/2007/04/cowardice-of-terrorism-tactics-of-paul.html

Paul's Quotable Quotes

Paul Watson brilliant quote of the Month
from 04/09/2007 A Tale of Two "Industries"

"Without exception all of the anti-sealing organizations want sealing abolished." Paul Watson. It scares me, not because of this particular gentleman - but because of the power I know his words can hold. That power is one that is familar to us as residents of this blue and green planet. Those who possess that rare influence - not in their specific actions but in their ability to incite hatred into the hearts of others. The same tone of cowardice that rings familiar to the writings of people like Charles Manson, of Jim Jones, and David Koresh. Those who have left a stain on the history of man - not because of their own innate evil - but in their ability to call that evil out from the darkness in the heart of their followers. We have seen its example far too many times.

Very recently this fear was awakened in me again from Paul when he wrote of the destruction of a man's fishing vessel; the instrument of this man's livelihood:

"The seals got a little satisfaction this week-end with the burning, sinking and total destruction of the Newfoundland registered 65-foot sealing boat at dockside in Port au Choix, Newfoundland...

“It is obvious that the vessel was a target of opportunity,” said Captain Paul Watson. “Boats just don’t catch fire in the middle of the night by accident.”

The owner of the vessel had brought the ship into port to “take another shot at the seals,” he said.“While it looks as if someone has taken a shot at him instead,” commented Captain Watson.

He then goes on to praise the alleged terrorist attack:

"Many lives will be spared because of this sinking and one less sealing boat on the seas is an even better thing. Who ever did this is a hero as far as I’m concerned.”

... but is very quick to deflect blame from himself:

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society was not involved directly or indirectly with this incident. Captain Watson is banned from entering Newfoundland or the areas near the seal slaughter.

Canada - the greatest country in the world - accepts this man with open arms. This man has said in no uncertain terms that he has hatred in his heart. The force of his campaign is in no small part driven by his loathing for all who inhabit the province of Newfoundland and Labrador:

"I have relatives in all parts of Canada except Newfoundland and for that I am greatful... Newfoundland is a place where priests rape orphans... they debased Canada when they joined in 1949"

But Paul remains a role model for many in the environmental movement. The Sierra Club of Canada is a highly respected environmental group with an international reputation. Their guest speaker last June was none-other than Mr. Watson whose speech received great applause.

What is not widely known from that speech is the level of discomfort among just a few in the crowd. The few that know Paul more closely. Those who, like GreenPeace, recognized in him the ability to destroy without remorse and incite evil in others without accepting consequences. The few that know him for inciting blatant hatred against the peoples of some first nations and against the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Indeed GreenPeace itself (which Paul still touts on his Curriculum Vitae) was so worried that Paul was capable of extremism that it gave him the boot very early in his career.

The trully terrifying part is not the silver-haired little-big-man but the dark armies he commands. These faceless demons who have written of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians "I hope someone skins your child alive in front of you and makes you watch" and "I would like to pull your heart from your chest because you aren't using it anyway". These are the dehumanized product of Paul's making. These are the children of the Family Watson. Not so far removed from the followers of humanitys darkest cults.

He has built his popular appeal among the rich and famous while condemning the poor and oppressed. He stands on the backs of the sheep who would be his followers and throws hatred. It is allowed because in Canada hatred against some specific groups is still socially accepted.

My appeal is to the would-be sheep. Use your common logic - Paul is no hero.

Injured Seals Exploited by IFAW - Caught on Film

A dieing seal is filmed on the ice. Of course, there is no way of controlling this take and it is ludicrous to believe that thousands of Newfoundlanders catching five fish a day will result in less than 2500 pounds of fish being taken.

...Of course, after this summer there will be 2400 tons fewer fish than now thanks to this token fishery opening that Loyola Hearn is offering to appease his constituents in Newfoundland.

Here is the point that Paul is avoiding or ignorant of: The fine folks of Nova Scotia have always been allowed to cod fish, no licenses and no season. The trial opening of the cod fishery in Newfoundland and Labrador was in response to what has been a great inequity in how the government of Canada treats the residents of Nova Scotia vs it’s sister province of Newfoundland and Labrador. A true conservationist would make that point that the Nova Scotian fishery must be restricted to match the same restrictions put on Newfoundland and Labrador fisherman. That is not Paul’s point though is it? He has again missed the boat on this one. Paul’s would not take a strong stance against Nova Scotia. He has said “I have relatives in every province of Canada except Newfoundland and for that I am grateful.”

“The fish are not being given time to recover,” said Captain Paul Watson. “It will take generations to undo the damage done by the greed of the commercial fishing industry and the incompetence of the Canadian government. It may not be possible to bring the cod back but these regular openings to make fishermen happy are not benefiting the species. We need to leave the cod alone for the next century and allow them to recover from the ruthless pogrom we have inflicted on them for the past few centuries.”

Paul has said in the previous news item that the fish are “not expected to recover” which is it, will they not recover or are they not being given time to recover – and here I thought he was omnipotent.

Back in 1993, the Sea Shepherd ship Cleveland Amory intervened against overfishing by foreign draggers on the Nose and the Tail of the Grand Banks. Although the campaign resulted in losses of over $35 million to illegal Spanish and Cuban drag trawlers, Captain Paul Watson was arrested for mischief for chasing the draggers away from the Banks. He was acquitted of the charges after a long and expensive trial in Newfoundland in 1995.

A photo of the Cleveland Amory is below. Ask yourself this: why did Paul abandon this globally important species back in the 1990s? When the Cod is still now in such great danger of extermination why is he no longer championing their cause?

To answer this I’ll give you some context. This was the early days of the Captain and his fledgling Sea Shepherd Society. Faced being kicked from the comfortable nest of Greenpeace that he claims to have co-founded even though other reports say he was simply in the same place at the same time as the true founders of that environmental group.

In these early days of SSCS Paul, still sore from the boot print on his ass decided to form his own group. He stepped back for the first time since that whale looked him in the eye and said to himself. What marine species needs my attention? Obviously the plight of the Northern Cod was short-listed and for a very brief time became his primary attention.

Why then did he abandon the plight of the cod? The truth is that the Cleveland Amory setting out to fight for the cod fish was a great money pit. Paul knew where his bread and butter must come from. Here is what he said at the time “...the seal is very easy to exploit as an image... the baby seal with tears coming out of its eyes. Baby seals are always crying because the salt tears keep their eyes from freezing; they are beautiful and because of that, coupled with the horror of the sealer hitting them over the head with a club, it is an image which just goes right to the heart of animal lovers all over North America”. He restructured his organization around the most reliable paycheque that he knew. The Harp Seals off Newfoundland and Labrador’s front. By now of course white coats were no longer hunted and there numbers where great and showing no signs of threat to the population. Doesn’t matter – Paul knew he could spin the right tale to get the money flowing again. He has done very little to aid pelagic species since. Token gestures like dropping a dozen or so "net rippers" in recent years - nothing more.

Sea Shepherd has called for a one hundred year moratorium on the taking of cod in the North Atlantic.

“It they have any chance for recovery,” said Captain Watson, “it will take at least a century to accomplish it. These are long-lived fish and the fisheries have slaughtered 96% of them all and now are not allowing the survivors to reach sexual maturity before assaulting them again. These fish should be left in peace and all cod fishing abolished at least until 2106.”

This is more armchair biology by this so-called conservationist. There were discussions recently about whether or not the Northern Cod should be placed on the endangered species list. There are established protocols and procedures to protect species at risk. Paul’s 100 year proclamation makes a great sound bite but has no merits in science. It is not only arbitrary it is the standard type of ludicrous hyperbole that we have come to expect from Paul.

Some Spring Cleaning of Watson BS

Let me do a Paul Style rewrite of this because I really feel truth is not a luxury or a privilege but a necessity...

Sea Shepherd News
News Releases
05/24/2006

Canadian Seafood Boycott is Beginning to Really Hurt the Seal Killers

Canadian Seafood Boycott is a lie. Most of the restaurants on the list are Vegetarian, do not serve Canadian Seafood and/or are unaware they were on a list.

Ask yourself this? Why did the Costco Store in Newfoundland and Labrador submit to the pressures of a local boycott within two weeks when Paul’s boycott of Costco has been ineffective? Research this yourself, outside the dark box that is the Sea Shepherd Media Machine. Sea Shepherd has posted the photo of ONE man, protesting outside Costco headquarters. Another photo that showed no more than ten protestors was removed from the site. The belief that there is a movement affront that is supportive of Paul Watson is a farce, plain and simple. He has a small but well funded and connected group of highly public people.

It has been 15 years since excessive overfishing by Newfoundland destroyed the North Atlantic cod populations. Back then, the Newfoundland fishermen and the Canadian politicians swore they knew what they were doing and insisted the cod numbers were healthy right up until the day the entire fishery collapsed.

First of all a point of correction. Paul Watson being the Canadian son he claims to be should be aware the name of the province is Newfoundland and Labrador, although I’m sure Labrador is not disappointed that Paul isn’t aware of them. For those who call themselves an environmentalist or conservationist you will know that the demise of the Northern Cod is a complex ecological issue that Paul has chosen to grossly simplify to suite his own “newfie” hating agenda.

I’ll give a few variables for those who wish to investigate this on their own. 1. Federal allowance of fishing quotas for foreign vessels. Given as favours, or in trade for favours. 2. Poor fishing techniques primarily by larger vessels including foreign vessels, these include unsustainable harvesting methods like drift-netters and bottom trawlers. 3. Political pressure on Ottawa to sustain smaller Newfoundland and Labrador communities who rely largely on the fishery (this is the one point Paul is willing to make) 4. Federal Policy promotes waste and greed, “by-catch” has traditionally been discarded. Look up “underutilized species” 5. Global changes in ocean species due to human factors like pollution, global warming, shipping traffic. There is a recognizable change in the marine environment that is not related to Newfoundland and Labrador. Evidence is the decrease in size of the ocean giants like Sunfish. Look it up. 6. Unbalanced predatory species. Paul and his crew also like to say that Newfoundland and Labradorian’s like to blame seals for the destruction of the cod. The truth is the ecological imbalance due to the population rise of the seal and decline of pelagic species has to be a factor to consider in a true environmental analysis of the North Atlantic ecology.

They all acted shocked when the cod fishery died although conservationists had been warning them for years that collapse was inevitable.

It is a conservationist job to warn of disaster. Governments don’t listen to conservationists. People like Paul Watson use the moniker of "conservationist" and then make public statements like “[Newfoundland] is a place where priests rape orphans”. That sort of person cannot be taken seriously. What governments need to listen to are Scientists. DFO again is to blame using poor scientific knowledge and analysis and in some cases poor scientists.

The cod are not expected to recover.

Paul likes to state things as fact. People close to him have described him as having a "God-Complex". Here he has announced the future of a species to the world, but apparently he is the only one with this knowledge.

Currently, the same “experts” are insisting that the seals populations are healthy even as they slaughter over 325,000 each year in what is the largest mass slaughter of any marine mammal population anywhere in the world.

Paul likes to use a series of rhetorical statements repeatedly that in so doing the perception will be perceived as true. Once a source of information is heard a number of times, we have a tendency to perceive them as being true. Consider the effects of rumour and gossip, or urban legends. Paul is a master deceiver. In this case Paul spouts big numbers like “325 000 seals slaughtered”, the “largest slaughter of marine mammals in the world”. What the reader should understand is that the harp seal herd is a population like no other marine mammal in the world. Current estimates put it at over 6 000 000 animals. The quota represents about 5%.

Now, the latest fiasco is the mismanagement and greed of the crab fishery that has resulted in another crash and this financial blow coupled with the international boycott of all Canadian seafood products has just hit Newfoundland with the force of an economic sledge hammer.

This week about 700 seafood processing workers were laid off after Sea Treat Ltd. shut down plants in three rural Newfoundland communities and one in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

This is the latest is a recent string of plant closings.

Again Paul is simplifying a complex ecological issue to suite his agenda. The same complex set of variables that account for Northern Cod also factor true for Crab. Crab in particular was hit by the impact of transferring processing to China and other places where labour is undervalued. You will know the effect of this if you’ve ever worked near textile factories in the US and Canada. Seafood is no different. The Seafood boycott simply has not been a factor in declining Crab prices.

"We could be heading towards a crisis," Newfoundland Prime Minister Danny Williams said. "A lot of these things that are happening here are things that are completely out of our control."

It appears Danny Williams has just realized what many environmentalists have known for years – that Newfoundland is heading once again into another crisis.

Let me give some background here. Danny Williams is a self made millionairre, highly successful business man, lawyer and rhodes scholar. Paul Watson is a wanna be acedemic who calls himself conservationist or environmentalist because they hold no concrete definition of implication of any sort of higher education. Paul says “It appears Danny Williams has just realized...”. Does Paul honestly think that Danny Williams or any Newfoundland and Labradorian has suddenly awakened to a profound realization. Paul likes to spread the filth and hate that Newfoundland and Labradorians are stupid. Beware of his alternate agenda, he is wholly wrong on this one.

The union representing nearly 20,000 Newfoundlanders are worried. Plummeting shellfish and crab prices have been the major force behind the sagging state of the fisheries this season, said Earle McCurdy, president of the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union.

The Sea Treat closings are part of a wider malaise plaguing the fisheries, said George Rose, professor and chairman of fisheries conservation with Memorial University's Marine Institute.

The Newfoundlanders as usual are blaming everyone but themselves. They blame the rising value of the Canadian dollar, competition for crab from the United States and China, higher fuel prices, and of course, they blame the seals, the whales, the seabirds, and the animal rights and conservation organizations.

Paul thinks Newfoundlanders and Labradorians blame everyone but themselves?! I suggest he spend more time listening and less time shitting from his mouth.

“The seafood boycott is not helping,” said one Newfoundland fisherman. “Our products are being given a bad name because of these stinking seal lovers,” he complained.

Paul likes to make stuff up as needed, the emphasis and tone sound nothing like that of a Newfoundland fisherman

The boycott is having an effect. Fishery Products International Ltd., considered the vanguard of the fishing business in Newfoundland and Labrador and crucial to the economic livelihood of the province's south coast, lost $10.5-million last year. Created by the federal and provincial governments from the bankrupt shells of previously collapsed firms, FPI has temporarily closed its Marystown operation, putting 650 employees out of work for the first five months of this year. The company also plans to permanently close its Fortune plant, eliminating 345 jobs, in July. Former employees in Harbour Breton haven't worked for more than two years, except for top-up projects to extend their employment insurance claims.

Here Paul takes some facts and heads it with a lie. Axe the first sentence here.

If Newfoundland is to recover they must learn to live in harmony with all the species that humans are independent with. A healthy population of seals is essential for a healthy fish population. That is an ecological fact.

Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are profoundly aware of our place in the environment. This statement by Paul is akin to telling Gretsky how to skate.

Newfoundland is in economic dire straits because of gross incompetence, mismanagement, and greed in their fishing industries over the last century. Scape-goating the seals instead of curbing their greed has brought them to where they are today.

Again simplifying complex issues so Paul himself is capable of some amount of understanding.

“Perhaps it is time that Newfoundlanders look at taking a more ecologically-healthy approach to living off the ocean.” Said Captain Paul Watson. “Wiping out seals and seabirds, whales, and fish is not the smartest thing to do if you wish to survive and live by the sea.”

Paul hates Newfoundland and Labradorians. This is another example of wording he likes to use in reference to intelligence of Newfoundland and Labradorians. It is a good sound-bite but has no merit in truth.

The Canadian seafood boycott is growing and it will continue to grow until Canada abolishes the mass cruel slaughter of hundreds of thousands of seal pups every spring.

How can a false boycott grow? Why is Red Lobster still open? Why is Costco Still thriving? This is what any intelligent reader has to ask themselves.

The Canadian government refuses to acknowledge that the international Boycott of Canadian Seafood products is having an effect despite the fact that they are funding public relations campaigns to counter the impact of the boycott.

The only PR campaign I hear is the daily radio announcements by the HSUS asking people to contact DFO. Nothing from Paul Watson – he is jumping aboard a larger ship and claiming himself captain. In Newfoundland and Labrador he would be known as a “cracky” a small yappy dog. You might know it better as “little big man syndrome”

The Canadian government has for years unfortunately been unable to see the cause and effect of their economic woes until it is too late. Perhaps they will acknowledge the boycott when the final fish processing worker is laid off and sent home.
More likely, however, they will simply blame us stinking seal lovers.

What can I say to this? Maybe Paul needs a good shower...

Paul Watson - Sea Warrior or Just a Bad Driver?

This is a photo of Captain Watson's boat "The Cleveland Amory"

...and this is Captain Watson's Car, "The Sidewalk Bandit"

Not So Long Ago, Not So Far Away

This is the story of Paul and the Sheep. Paul was known far and wide and commanded an audience whereever he would roam. His face was seen on television screens and magazines all over this great land. Hugging a seal, calling for compassion. The picture of Paul with his teary-eyed furry friends brought Paul great wealth and fame. He grew a flock of sheep who also wanted to hug and love and show compassion. But Paul had a dark secret. Outwordly Paul preached compassion, but the real Paul had a dark and hateful heart. His flock became an organization that could not defend itself on the merits of its own philosophy. It was an organization that claimed to be based on compassion but incited hatred against a group of people. The flock was overtaken by hypocrites and racists.

With their moral core corrupted with darkness Paul's Flock had to lie and cheat putting on a false front for the media. In the absense of science and logical evidence they turned to what they did best. Skewing the public perception of the scientific and logical evidence. Public opinion is everything. Media controls the world.

Paul's Pals had the media harnessed, how could they now control the people?
In the absence of good sound scientific evidence how can they get in people's
heads? Paul rubbed his chin, he scratched his shin, he smiled then paused and smiled again.

"Of Course" - he laughed! "Elementary my dear Watson - we poison the sheep with the perception that the very people they will campaign against are inherently evil. My sheep we are battling EVIL itself. Evil in the form of a simple fisherman working to feed and clothe his family. Evil incarnate!"

And the sheep ate at the troughs unaware of the poison that their Shepherd had mixed with their grain.

That my dear friends is what Racism is about.

The moral of the story: There are lots of great environmental groups, animals and environmental issues that need your attention. This seal hunt and this hateful group doesn't deserve your attention, your time or your money. Don't be a sheep.

A Taste of the Season - Ba-da Bop Bop Baaaa I'm Loving it!

Since MacDonalds Newfoundland and Labrador announced the introduction of the McFlipper Pie earlier this year reaction has been anything but moderate.

MacDonalds has never shyed away from catering to local markets. The introduction of Pizza was announced with great fan-fare and offered up on a trial basis to the Canadian Market. Although it met with reasonable success the infrastructure to maintain fast order pizza ovens and pizza supplies for a limited market proved to be more trouble than it was worth. Another example of the "tuning in to the local taste" is the Altantic Canadian introduction of the MacLobster sandwich that was trialed for a few summers in the Atlantic Provinces. But it is this year's sensation that has everyone talking.

In March 2006 - to a very uncharacteristicly quite marketing campaign MacDonald's introduced the MacFlipper Pie. Some animal rights groups were shocked saying "They have MacDonald's in Newfoundland?" The marketing for the MaCFlipper claims it took Four Grandmothers arguing for Four Monthes before the final recipe was decided on. They claim it has all the great taste you remember without driving the pastor from the house with the funk.

A spokesman for MacDonald's Newfoundland hopes it has great success in the upcoming tourist season among tourists who really want to sample the local flavour. He feels that by making use of the Seal Meat in a commerical way MacDonalds is helping the local economy by finding a much needed market for the product, which he claims is "better for you that beef, very high in protein". On the heels of the success of last summer's MacScrunchions and Cod Tongues MacDonalds are pleased to be partnering with local harvesters.

The Great Comb-Over

What ever became of the great alternative plan by the good captain to harvest the moulted seal fur for commerical markets? According to DFO the permit was granted and there are photos of the Captain with a a Ziploc of fur. Why was this not successful? Surely the good Captain could have called upon the bankroll of an ex-beatle or aging star to fund this little venture?

The news release suggested "The SS has successfully found an economic alternative to the seal slaughter. Seal fur brushed off molting juveniles is highly-prized in Europe where it is used as filler for bed comforters and sleeping bags. SS was granted a permit from the Canadian government to brush as many as 8000 young seals. Brushing 30 seals produces a kilogram of fine fur, worth $30 Canadian.

That comes to a buck a seal. I'm guessing it takes quite a bit of time to give a seal pup the old wash and dry. So the great alternative is taking a half an hour or so to comb a seal pup for a grand total of $1. The present hunt commands about $100 per pelt.

Great alternative Captain. You're don't have a business degree I'm guessing. I encourage the captain to pursue this on his own dime...

(Pssst. This is just a rumour but apparently the fur that he supposedly sold to Commerical markets was used entirely in the making of his hairpiece. Judge for yourself - is that human hair? The word is you can get your own Official SS Comb-Dome Rug for about $150,000 American.)

The Face of a Racist and The Faces of a Race

The Face of a Racist

Capt. In it The SS claims

"Costco Canada blatantly accused SS Conservation Society of lying to the media when they said they had never had any communication with SS over the issue of seal oil capsules being removed from the shelves of their outlet in St. John's"

What follows on the site is the entire e-mail communication mostly from SS volunteer to Costco. The only communication from Costco is as follows:

Read the whole thing. What you will NOT read is that the decision to remove Seal Oil capsules had anything to do with persistent badgering by The SS. What you will NOT read is that Costco made any such statement as to support for or against the Seal Hunt. You will NOT see that Costco made any such statement about "The Vial Product" or other derogatory terms as claimed.

There is simply no indication that the decision to remove the product was anything less than a business decision based on sales.

THERE IS DEFINATE DECEIT DEAR FRIENDS BUT THE SOURCE IS NOT COSTCO, IT COMES FROM Capt.
